Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

A ground breaking, non-operative, non-invasive technique, used in the treatment of wounded soft tissue. It promotes accelerated healing and helps to remedy chronic pain and injuries unresponsive to corrective surgery or physiotherapy.

When we hurt or injure ourselves, our body sends in its natural emergency services – platelet cells, a component of blood whose function is to contribute to hemostasis and to stop bleeding. These cells initiate repair and attract essential stem cells.

Conditions that can be treated include:

  • ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injuries
  • Lower back pain caused by bulging discs or poor posture
  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, hop, shoulder and spine
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis (Pain in the arch of the foot)
  • Tendonitis and chronic tendon injuries
  • Tennis Elbow

How it works

The science behind PRP therapy is to take a sample of your blood, separate the three components which are, blood cells, plasma and platelets. We then reintroduce the highly concentrated platelets to the area of concern for intensified healing. As it is your own blood, there is no risk of transferred infection, just a kick start to the body’s natural repair system.

The platelet rich plasma is a protein rich concentrate created from your own blood. The process of centrifuging the sample, separates the red blood cells and leaves a substance high in growth factors, stimulating cellular growth and when injected into soft tissue can promote accelerated healing.
